It sounds as though I missed a good meeting last month.
Peter fuller entertained you by turning a bread board, a potato masher, a spurtle for stirring your porridge with (no home should be without one) and a wooden spoon. I wonder what that was for? The finishing touch to your kitchen was a bud vase. Everything was made from beech and the only finish Peter uses is to soak it all again to raise the grain and re-sand it. He thought it would too messy to do this on the day. He also had a good repertoire of jokes that he would look up on his crib sheet hidden about his person and hit you with one at regular intervals. Apparently the best part of his demonstration. The afternoon was a free for all with a bring and buy tool sale in one corner, Bernard Slingsby was giving hands on pyrography tuition in another and there was some wood turning tuition going on as well with Norman and Bill. No expense spared at our club.
For our next meeting Brian Partridge is visiting us again and he will be talking about and using English woods and showing us his method of off centre turning. It's not his first visit to us and his show went down very well last time so we should be in for a good day. Cash on the door will be £5 for members and £7 for non members. I mentioned in the last newsletter that we have got space for the August bank holiday Sunday and Monday 29th & 30th at Badgers Hill. It has now been agreed that we will also have space on every last Sunday of the month. The gazebo will remain a permanent fixture at the site and will be used by the owners of the site as an overflow tea tent when necessary. Also, just a reminder that we have space reserved at the goose Fair on September 12th. The rules for these shows with regard to sales are that anyone who attends for the day and sells any of their own pieces of work will not pay anything to the club. Anyone not attending but puts items in for sale to be sold by members that are there will pay 10% of any money taken in to club funds to help to cover costs. If this is not clear please ask again at the next meeting Most of you will remember Clem Ansell who left us last year to go and live in Lincolnshire. He spoke to Bill Burden recently and said he is now running a B&B.
